EPSO Tests Practice Questions

There are currently 4 internal competitions announced by the Commission in 2024 for the following grades: AST2, AST-SC2, AD5, and AD6. All four grades have the following selection tests: EU Knowledge Test (MCQ): 50 questions in 50 minutes | Written Test (90 min) | Oral Test (Oral Presentation + Interview). The digital literacy skills test is one of the tests that comprise the EPSO AD5 Generalist competition. These are the 5 building blocks of digital competencies that the tests may cover: Information and data literacy, Communication and collaboration, Digital content creation, Security and problem-solving. Not to worry, you don't need to be an IT specialist and this is not about numerical reasoning or coding either, it's about applied digital skills that you most likely already use in your day-to-day life.

This type of test is designed to mimic a future EU official’s email inbox. It simulates one, or several busy days in an EU institution work environment. During the test, candidates receive about 19-21 emails that contain all the necessary background information they need, and based on this information they will have to respond to several situations that could occur. Since this E-Tray practice was originally developed for EPSO exams (it hasn't been part of the selection process for many years), the test assesses 4 competencies: Working with Others, Delivering Quality and Results, Analysing and Problem-Solving, and Prioritising and Organising. It is great practice for anyone who may have to sit this type of digital in tray exercise.

The European Economic and Social Committee (EESC) is running an internal competition for 6 different profiles. The European Parliament regularly releases 'Calls for Expressions of Interest' for open and internal competitions. Some of these selection processes include a language test or an EP knowledge test, depending on which profile is sought. 

The practice questions packages available for purchase below are based on 2024 EP open competitions where the MCQ was described in the Notice of competition as follows: 

• The MCQ test will be 60 minutes and consist of a maximum of 40 questions intended to assess the candidates’ knowledge in the following four areas:
  1. Knowledge of the European Union
  2. Knowledge of the European Parliament
  3. Verbal reasoning
  4. Numerical reasoning

For those candidates preparing for the European Parliament's open competition PE/AD/299/2023/TRAD | Intercultural and Language Professionals, the Language Test is the pre-selection MCQ. The test will consist of a max 40 questions to be answered in max 80 minutes according to the NoC. The test is meant to assess candidates' ability to identify information relating to the values of the EU and the role of the European Parliament. The practice questions below can be bought individually, or in discounted packages. You can start the test in practice mode, without the time limit, or you can simulate the test-taking experience in exam mode. There are maximum 120 questions available, all in English.

This European Parliament initiative offers candidates with a disability the opportunity to work for the EU’s only directly elected institution. The selection test is a computer-based MCQ with 30 questions in total, with 10 of each of these: EU Knowledge, Verbal Reasoning and Situational Judgement.

Many different competitions use the EU Knowledge Test as part of the selection process. Many EPSO, internal, and other open competitions use it to test candidates' knowledge of the EU and its origins, the EU institutions and main EU policies. The Language Comprehension Test assesses a candidate's verbal abilities with a given language, e.g. competency with vocabulary, syntactical word order, and understanding words and passages in context. It's an ideal test for pre-employment screening, applicable to a variety of EU jobs. This test may sometimes be used as part of non-EPSO internal/open competitions, or EU institution recruitment processes. It is also used for EPSO Translators competitions.

EPSO/AD/403/23 - 2 | AD7 | Administrators The Migration and internal security exam includes the EPSO CBT (which tests three reasoning skills: verbal, numerical and abstract), the Field-Related MCQ and the Written Test. The Reasoning Skills Test (Computer-Based Test or CBT) is a required multiple-choice exam for many open competitions and calls, including EPSO, CAST, Frontex, JPP, and many more. These tests assess candidates' verbal, numerical and abstract reasoning skills.

Although no longer part of EPSO competitions, some EU institutions' selection and recruitment procedures still have the SJT (Situational Judgement Test) as one of the required exams. This test is about how you judge and make decisions based on different work-related situations. The test looks for how you would fit into the various EU institutions' way of working. The test generally presents you with a realistic work-related situation, followed by 4 possible actions to choose from. Then you have to determine which action is most effective.

Currently, the Language Knowledge test is available for all eight languages: Danish Dutch, English French, Greek, Italian, Maltese and Spanish. The test package includes Reasoning Skills, Language Comprehension, and Language Knowledge.
